In line with the global warming, the annual mean temperature averaged over India also showed significant increasing trend. The 2021 annual mean land surface air temperature for the country was 0.440C above the long period average (LPA) for the period 1981-2010 and the year 2021 was the fifth warmest year on record since 1901.The five warmest years on record, in descending order are: 2016 (+0.710C), 2009 (+0.550C), 2017 (+0.540C), 2010 (+0.540C), and 2021 (+0.440C). Further, the 11 out of 15 warmest years pertain to the recent fifteen years (2007-2021). The past decade (2011-2020/ 2012-2021) was also the warmest decade on record with the decadal averaged annual mean temperature of 0.340C /0.370C above the LPA. Both the annual all India maximum and minimum temperatures showed increasing trends, with trend in the maximum temperature being relatively higher than that in the minimum temperature. On a seasonal scale, the highest increasing trend in the mean temperature was observed in the post-monsoon and winter seasons. Spatial distribution of the annual temperatures over the country showed significant warming trends over most parts of the country except in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where significant decreasing trend was observed
